“And he sent them to Bethlehem, saying, “Go and search diligently for the child, and when you have found him, bring me word, that I too may come and worship him.”” #Matthew2:8
Herod was an unusual focus for the Christmas miracle. Yet, God teaches us something important about the reason why Jesus came to us. In one perspective, Herod thought too high of himself. Herod viewed people as his servants, and God as a rival. Herod didn’t want to adore Jesus but annihilate him.
In another perspective, Herod thought too low of himself. He, like us, were made for more than earthly riches and pleasure, which are fleeting and inferior to eternity.

Lord, forgive me for selfishness or supposed superiority. Help me to keep a servant mindset. Help me to invest in people and developing the gifts and leadership legacy of others. May the fruit of my labors store up treasure in heaven where rust and rivalry cannot rot my legacy. Yours is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, forever. Amen.
