A New Year’s Aim From An Old Man

Luke 2:25 “Now there was a man named Simeon, who was righteous and devout. He was waiting for the consolation of Israel, and the Holy Spirit was upon him.”

Simeon = The Lord hears

Simeon was righteous. Typically, this describes someone who treats others respectfully, compassionately, and justly. They uphold the imago dei in each person.

Simeon was devout. His commitment was consistent, dependable, and enduring.

Simeon was waiting for the consolation of Israel. He sought peace and goodwill for his neighbors and nation.

Simeon was filled with the Holy Spirit. He walked with God and followed the Spirit’s leading.

Simeon blessed a married couple with a new baby. He encouraged families in the faith, and exhorted them to wholeheartedly follow Jesus.

Lord, let this verse become a vision and action for the new year.
