Afghanistan And Around The World

Politics aside, many are shocked and saddened by what is happening in Afghanistan. The rising return of evil, violence and bloodshed is sickening to consider what so many have previously served and sacrificed to create. As one stated, “We knew that American shoulders could not support Afghanistan forever—but we also didn’t think our friends would leave us in the dead of night.”

Harrowing scenes of large aircraft removing soldiers, workers, and citizens are a reminder that this world is not our home. Reports from Christians underground display a sense of faithfulness amid persecution that can only come from the Spirit of Jesus. Our Christian brothers and sisters are asking for prayer for physical protection, spiritual provision, and gospel advance.

As Christians, we are called to remember

  • “the members may have the same care for one another; if one member suffers, all suffer together” (1 Corinthians 12:26)
  • “Remember those who are in prison, as though in prison with them, and those who are mistreated, since you also are in the body.” (Hebrews 13:3)
  • “Rescue those being led away to death; hold back those staggering toward slaughter. If you say, ‘But we knew nothing about this,’ does not he who weighs the heart perceive it? Does not he who guards your life know it? Will he not repay each person according to what he has done?” (Proverbs 24:11-12)

We can ask, “Why do the nations rage and the peoples plot in vain?” (Psalm 2:1). I/we can feel overwhelmed and helpless in a world of depravity, desperation, upheaval, natural disaster, and insurmountable death. Yet, our response is to pray. Pray for Afghanistan. Pray and trust the Lord for peace and justice in His timing, strength in trial, and sustaining hope in all things. May the Lord raise up His church and extend His saving grace to Afghanistan to the Americas; from Cuba, to Haiti, to Nicaragua, to the United States; from North Korea to China, and around the world.

Please join me in these prayers.
